The Region Online’s map view lets you explore the business directory and events calendar visually, with business locations plotted as pins on an interactive map of Northwest Indiana. This page explains what map view is, how to switch to it, and how to interact with the map to find the businesses you need.

What Is Map View?

By default, the business directory at theregiononline.com/listing/ shows results as a scrollable list of cards. Map view is an alternative display that places every matching business on a geographic map, making it easy to see where businesses are clustered, compare locations at a glance, and find businesses closest to a specific area. Map view is available on both the business directory page and the events page.
Map view only displays businesses that have a valid address on file. Listings without a verified address will not appear as pins on the map, though they may still appear in list view.

How to Switch to Map View

Open the directory or events page

Go to theregiononline.com/listing/ for businesses or theregiononline.com/events/ for events.

Find the view toggle

Look for the List / Map view toggle near the top of the results area, just above the listing cards.

Click Map View

Select Map View from the toggle. The display switches from a card list to an interactive map with location pins.

Explore the map

The map loads centered on Northwest Indiana. Zoom and pan to explore business locations across the Region.

How to Switch Back to List View

To return to the card-based list, click the List View option in the same toggle at the top of the results area. Your active filters carry over — you won’t lose any search settings when switching between views.

Interacting with the Map

Once you’re in map view, here’s how to get the most out of it:

Click a Pin to See Business Info

Each pin on the map represents a business. Click any pin to open a small info card showing the business name, category, city, and open/closed status. From that info card, click through to the full business profile for contact details, hours, and more.

Zoom In and Out

Use the + and − buttons on the map, your mouse scroll wheel, or a pinch gesture on mobile to zoom in and out. Zooming in reveals individual businesses more clearly when pins are clustered together. Zooming out gives you a broader view of the entire NW Indiana area.

Pan the Map

Click and drag (or swipe on mobile) to move the map in any direction. This lets you explore specific neighborhoods or cities without changing your active filters.

Map View Respects Your Active Filters

Map view is fully integrated with the search and filter panel. Any filters you’ve set — keyword, city, category, or open status — apply equally in map view. Only businesses that match your active filters will appear as pins. Example: If you filter by category Food & Drinks and city Merrillville, the map will display only food and drink businesses located in Merrillville.
Map view is especially useful when you’re looking for businesses near a specific location and want to compare distances visually. Zoom into your neighborhood or a particular street to see which businesses are closest to you — then click a pin to get the details.

Map View for Events

The events page at theregiononline.com/events/ also supports map view. Switch to the map to see event venues plotted geographically, which is handy when you’re planning a day out and want to find events happening near a particular part of the Region.
