# Business Categories on The Region Online Directory

> Overview of all available business categories and how to choose the right one to maximize discoverability for your Northwest Indiana listing.

The Region Online organizes its Northwest Indiana business directory into clearly defined categories so that customers can quickly browse and filter for exactly the type of business they need — this page covers every available category, what kinds of businesses belong in each, and how to choose or change the category for your listing.

## Why Your Category Matters

When customers search the directory, they frequently filter results by category. Choosing the most accurate category for your business ensures you appear in the right filtered views, increases your visibility to the customers most likely to visit, and helps The Region Online recommend your listing in relevant searches. A business placed in a mismatched category will miss out on much of its potential traffic.

<Tip>
  Always pick the most specific category available rather than a broad one. If you run a yoga studio, **Health & Wellness** is a better fit than a generic services category — it puts you in front of customers actively looking for wellness businesses in Northwest Indiana.

## How to Choose the Right Category

Consider the primary reason customers seek out your business. Ask yourself: *When a customer searches for what I offer, what word or phrase would they type first?* Match that intent to the category list above.

A few examples:

* A **nail salon** that also sells beauty products → **Beauty & Personal Care** (your core service drives the visit)
* A **physical therapy clinic** inside a gym → **Medical Services** (licensed healthcare takes priority)
* A **family entertainment center** with a café → **Entertainment** (the experience is the main draw)

If your business genuinely spans two categories equally, choose the one that represents the majority of your revenue or the service most customers come to you for specifically.
